Neurosciences Study Evening at CUBRIC
A Neurosciences study evening was hosted at Cardiff University Brain Research and Imaging Centre last month to mark the commencement of the clinical 3T service in partnership with MedTel UK.
Subjects covered included the role of 3T imaging in the management of neuro-oncology, epilepsy and degenerative diseases. Directors Prof Derek Jones and Prof Richard Wise gave a comprehensive overview of the research function of CUBRIC.

This unique operational relationship has recently been agreed in South Wales between one of the countries most prestigious imaging research centres and the UK's most innovative diagnostics providers, MedTel UK Ltd.
CUBRIC is a highly esteemed neurosciences multi modality imaging research centre, committed to research into the structure and function of the human brain. It boasts a state of the art GE Signa 3T HDx situated within a £10 million purpose built facility in Cardiff University's city centre campus.
MedTel 3T MRI at CUBRIC is the first 3T MRI service available to NHS and private patients in the Cardiff area. The high field imaging of 3T with applied expertise of the CUBRIC scientists, offers advanced imaging applications and capabilities complementary to conventional MRI imaging carried out at 1.5T.
Stuart Lavine, Operations Manager for MedTel UK said, 'We are delighted to be working with such a high calibre institution and providing what will be a major complement to the excellent MRI services available in the region'
'This is a fantastic opportunity for our radiographers to add 3T imaging and clinical research experience to their CV's'
'I've been extremely impressed by the breakthrough techniques and superlative image quality available to clinicians at CUBRIC and we have been extremely well supported by GE'
MedTel, who will be working closely with University Hospital of Wales neuroradiologist Shawn Halpin and musculo-skeletal radiologists Dr Kathleen Lyons and Dr Kathrin Hammer, have added an 8-channel extremity coil to the impressive neuro coil configuration.
The combination of advanced imaging and a targeted report turnaround of 24hrs will ensure that MedTel 3T MRI at CUBRIC provides a high quality diagnostic service for both clinicians and patients of South Wales.
