Clinical governance

What is Clinical Governance?
Clinical governance was defined as ' a framework through which organisations are accountable for continuously improving the quality of their services and safeguarding high standards of care by creating an environment in which excellence in clinical care will flourish'.

The purpose of clinical governance is to ensure that patients' receive the highest quality care possible and that the organisation has the systems and processes in place that ensures continuous quality improvement and safeguards patient safety.

MedTel is committed to providing clinical excellence in all aspects of its business and applies the highest standards to its medical and radiology practices, ensuring patients receive only the finest quality care and positive patient experience.

Regulation and Inspection
The Healthcare Commission is responsible for the registration, regulation and inspection of independent healthcare providers.  Assessment of healthcare providers is undertaken annually against the regulations outlined in the National Minimum Standards for Independent Health. This process enables the Commission to determine whether providers have safe systems and quality assurance arrangements in place for their patients.

Governance Framework
The Integrated Governance Committee is the forum at the centre of the organisations clinical governance framework. It co-ordinates, monitors and evaluates the actions and activities associated with the quality agenda across the organisation.

The Integrated Governance Committee is supported by Medical Advisory Committees. The Medical Advisory Committee (MAC) is comprised of individuals elected from amongst the practitioners who have been granted practice privileges in the organisation. The MAC supports the effective implementation of clinical governance including monitoring of clinical standards and regular clinical audit to ensure practice is delivered in accordance with recognised clinical guidelines.

The Integrated Governance Committee reports regularly to the Executive Board to provide assurance of the systems and practices that are ensuring patients receive the highest quality clinical care.
