Pain Management
Pain is whatever the patient says it is, with every individual reacting differently. Pain affects our daily lives and our ability to function effectively.
Pain management for acute and chronic pain has become a well identified area of treatment. Consultant specialists from varying medical and surgical specialities, such as neurology, anaesthetics and psychology provide pain management services within primary, secondary and tertiary care.
Pain management treatments at Chelmsford Medical Centre include many of the following and are undertaken safely as a day case procedure to reduce pain so the patient can achieve a higher ability to function and a better quality of life.
- Facet joint injections Cervical and Lumbar
- Dorsal root ganglion block
- Epidurogram and Epidural injection
- Radiofrequency denervation(a procedure where radiofrequency is used to destroy a particular nerve so the painful messages being sent from a joint are blocked)
- Gaunethidine blocks, for post operative complications from internal scar tissue
The centre provides a full service from diagnosis to treatment with specialists within each area identified. Following consultation with your General Medical Practitioner (GP) who will assess your condition you may be referred to see a specialist consultant at the centre. The specialist will arrange various investigations in order to determine your diagnosis. These investigations may include X-rays, ultrasound examination, blood tests and where indicated an MRI scan. Following confirmation of your diagnosis your specialist will discuss options for treatment with you, and a treatment plan will be agreed taking into account your individual needs.
Where a pain relief procedure is recommended as a day case this can be undertaken at the centre, should an overnight or extended stay be required the specialist will arrange this at an alternative healthcare facility.
