A podiatrist is a specialist foot doctor, who is specially trained to diagnose and treat many conditions that affect the feet and also a persons posture, which has been affected by foot alignment and gate. Special prostheses can be designed and made to correct and support foot realignment to ease pain and discomfort improving mobility.
Following a consultation with your General Medical Practitioner (GP) a referral can be made to the podiatrist at the centre. The specialist may arrange various investigations in order to determine your diagnosis, these investigations may include X-rays, foot scans and/or even gate analysis.
Your treatment options will be discussed with your specialist and where required other members of the multi-disciplinary team, to agree a treatment plan taking into account your individual needs.
Where surgical intervention is recommended as a day case this can be undertaken at the centre, should an overnight or extended stay be required the specialist will arrange this at an alternative healthcare facility.
